The Art of Curating is a continuation of the Curator Knows Best blog series on the Sporcle Blog. The series features opinions, top-notch quizzes and quizmakers, bits of trivia, and even a joke at the end from Sporcle’s great curators.
How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
Although it wasn’t until April 2018 that I ended up making an account, I actually discovered Sporcle almost a year before that. From what I remember I was just googling for a bunch of MCU and Star Wars quizzes as I was a huge fan of the two at the time (and still am!), and that led me to a few Sporcle ones and after that I just kept coming back for more until I decided I want to make my own quizzes for others like me to enjoy.
Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategory?
Whilst the format is quite restrictive, the freedom with topic areas was what was really drawing me to it. The variety of topics that can be found in these quizzes make it so much more enjoyable as each one is different from the next. I also wanted to contribute more to the Sporcle community. I liked the idea of rewarding Sporclers for quality quiz-making and also being a mentor to newer Sporclers too.
What’s your favourite trivia fact having to do with your subcategory?
Get the Picture is the newest of the Daily Dose quiz types, having only been launched in January 2019, but it still produces more than 100 quizzes on average each month.
What are some of your favourite published quizzes from your subcategory?
I-Am-Batman‘s ‘Get the Picture: Wizards‘ is a fun one. It brings three of the most popular franchises together into one quiz and is just generally well-made and a unique idea. gazzso‘s GTP World series is also very well-made and a good test of geographical knowledge.
What are some of your favourite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
KStericker‘s ‘Get the Picture: Forrest Gump, Cpt. Miller, or Woody?‘ is a great one which certainly deserves a publish. BookishGirl98‘s ‘Get the Picture: Flies or Rings‘ brings together two classic pieces of literature and I’m surprised it is yet to be published.
What are your favourite quizzes from an entirely different category?
I love esmeyny’s Clueless Letter Lines quizzes as well as Joshie_the_great‘s Letter Grids. I-Am-Batman‘s Odd One Out: MCU Scenes is also a blast!
Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
Contests and collaborations is arguably the one I spend the most time in. I recently participated in Bratista‘s Chemistry and Elements contest, as well as hosting my own contest in the Get the Picture subcategory back in October for Halloween which ended up being incredibly successful.
How can Sporclers in your subcategory best contact you?
I always check in everyday, so feel free to send me a message to my inbox and I’ll provide feedback and assistance relatively quickly.
Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention they get?
The two Sporclers who immediately come to mind are spanachan and captain_marvel. They both produce high quality quizzes which I always enjoy playing, but they shockingly only have 4 publishes between them.
Haiku or favourite Dad Joke (or both)
A slice of apple pie is $2.50 in Jamaica and $3.00 in the Bahamas. These are the pie rates of the Caribbean.
Anything else you want people to know?
I’m always happy to give out feedback and advice to anyone, it doesn’t have to be one of the subcategories I curate. My Sporcle door is open to everyone!
