The Art of Curating is a continuation of the Curator Knows Best blog series on the Sporcle Blog. The series features opinions, top-notch quizzes and quizmakers, bits of trivia, and even a joke at the end from Sporcle’s great curators.
How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
It’s honestly been such a long time since I first signed up that I don’t quite remember. I used to love playing computer games (especially Point & Click games and anything involving Room Escape and puzzles) so I was most likely using Google to try to find other gaming websites and was lucky enough to stumble upon Sporcle.
Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategory?
I’ve wanted to take a more active role in the site for a while now so I decided to become a Curator. The only problem was finding a subcategory I was passionate about. South Park is one of my favorite cartoon shows. I have seen every episode and the movie so it felt like it was right up my alley.
What’s your favourite trivia fact having to do with you subcategory?
In their very first season, South Park managed to get George Clooney to voice a character on their show. Rather than play himself or some other big character he voiced Stan’s dog, Sparky. He did a few barks here and there which was the entirety of his voice acting for that episode.
What are some of your favourite published quizzes from your subcategory?
I really like South Park Characters by Matt as I feel it shows all the most important character and I have always loved visual quizzes. South Park Celebrities is another good visual quiz by druhutch for any South Park fans who frequent the site. The Chewbacca Defense is a very funny quiz by golions84 that is based around one of the most nonsensical scenes of the show.
What are some of your favourite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
I quite enjoy South Park Hats and Hair by matthijsbp, South Park Characters (Picture Click) by babymonkee and South Park Character Blitz by Thebiguglyalien as great examples of visual quizzes for the Show. I also feel South Parkified Disney Princesses by RioMadeira is a nice combination of 2 very different subjects.
What are your favourite quizzes from an entirely different category?
Two puzzle quizzes in series I really enjoy are Mini Paint-By-Numbers by sproutcm and Building Bridges by jyrops. I also know it is already one of the most played quizzes here, but I still really love Countries of the World by Matt. It really helped me learn so much of the world which in turn helps out with so many other quizzes here.
Which Sporcle group do you frequent most often?
That would definitely have to be Shameless Promotion. I am still an active badge hunter here and with me being down to mostly just needing those publishing badges, any extra plays can really make the difference between a possible EP/CP or struggling to even top 100 plays.
How can Sporclers in your subcategory best contact you?
The best way to reach me is through Sporcle Messages as I don’t often check my e-mail so messaging me is definitely the quickest way to get through to me.
Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
There are many I feel get overlooked who release great quizzes. I’m sorry if I forget anyone, but I’ll try to focus on the ones who have under 10 publishes so far: Bratista, aglick, alvir28, caseyw690, Holly62092, jrage2009, CGMFan1, I-Am-Batman, treessimontrees, bortoluka, matthijsbp, Robzle, Burnley_Bloke and Lukedude are all talented quiz makers who I believe we will continue to see great things out of here on Sporcle.
Haiku or favourite Dad Joke (or both)
What is a haiku?
It sounds like a nonsense word
Don’t try fooling me
A man was visiting his father to read him the paper as he does every week. When he got to an article on an overturned Nike truck on the highway his elderly father burst into tears. After a few minutes the son was able to console his father and ask him what upset him so much. His father wiped a tear and said, “It’s just hard hearing about how many soles were lost in that accident.”
