The Art of Curating is a continuation of the Curator Knows Best blog series on the Sporcle Blog. The series features opinions, top-notch quizzes and quizmakers, bits of trivia, and even a joke at the end from Sporcle’s great curators.

oregonisamazingThis week, we feature oregonisamazing, curator of Famous.

How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
I first got involved with Sporcle in late 2015. I started playing quizzes, and eventually made an account in early 2016. I don’t really know how I came across the site, but I imagine I was looking for some sort of US state quiz or something like that.

Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategory?
The summer of 2018 was honestly when I first started getting really involved with Sporcle. I started to make quizzes and got my first Curator Picks. I started learning a little bit about curatorships, and I decided that I would like to try to become one. When ‘Famous’ opened up, I decided to apply for it, and lo and behold, I got the curatorship.

What’s your favourite trivia fact having to do with you subcategory?
That is a hard question that I don’t really have a good answer for. I guess a weird fact about my subcategory is that Beyonce has a species of fly named after her. It’s called Scaptia beyonceae.

What are some of your favourite published quizzes from your subcategory?
One quiz that I find hilarious and absolutely love is Celebrity or Star Wars Character by bareodin2. It’s a really funny quiz that always makes me laugh. Another quiz that I enjoy is Picture Me! by PenguinsMeerkats. The final result is some amazing artwork.

What are some of your favourite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
I like things that make me laugh. So one of my favorite quizzes is Dumb Celebrity Quotes by Pilgab. It’s celebrities saying completely ridiculous things, and it is really entertaining to play. Another quiz that never fails to make me laugh is Donald Trump Filmography by Darzlat. Every time I play it, I think of Donald Trump appearing in the movies, and I just crack up for some reason.

What are your favourite quizzes from an entirely different category?
There are two types of quizzes that I am very fond of. One is really big Mario character quizzes, such as 100 Mario Characters by knighthikaru. The second type of quiz that I enjoy a lot is large US city quizzes, a la 6 Most Populous Cities in Each State by robhop.

Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
I don’t spend a lot of time in Groups, but when I decide to visit a couple groups, I visit General Discussion and Trophy Case.

How can Sporclers in your subcategory best contact you?
The best way to contact me is by sending me a message. I will always respond within a couple days.

Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
There are a lot of Sporclers who I think deserve more attention. I’ll just highlight one for now. aglick is an awesome up and coming quizmaker who makes a ton of entertaining quizzes. He is going up in popularity, and I think that he totally deserves it. There is not a single one of his quizzes that is not fun to play.

Haiku or favourite Dad Joke (or both):
Did you hear about the scarecrow who won the Nobel Prize? He was outstanding in his field. During his acceptance speech he was quoted as saying, “Hay! It’s in my jeans.”
