The Art of Curating: caseyw690

Art of curating banner

The Art of Curating is a continuation of the Curator Knows Best blog series on the Sporcle Blog. The series features opinions, top-notch quizzes and quizmakers, bits of trivia, and even a joke at the end from Sporcle’s great curators.

caseyw690This week, we feature caseyw690, curator of Asia and Population.

How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
Mr. Krenz’s classroom, eighth grade social studies, first day of school (8/22/15). That was the day that my life was graced with the presence of Sporcle. We had to memorize all of the states, but being the strange, strange creature I was, I knew them already. I took a few hiatuses from Sporcle since then. But since May of 2017, I’ve either come on the site or the mobile app every single day.

Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategory?
I love playing many, many types of quizzes (I’ve applied for six curatorships in three categories), but the reason I chose Asia is because geography has always been my strong suit, I like the diversity of the continent and the cultures involved are interesting as well vibrant.

What’s your favourite trivia fact having to do with you subcategory?
All 133 of the world’s tallest mountains (by elevation) are in Asia. Lenin Peak in Kyrgyzstan is 99th (Typical Coloradoan going for mountain trivia).

What are some of your favourite published quizzes from your subcategory?
One of my first picks that has since been published is Asia Minesweeper, which isn’t the most Asia-y selection, but I had to include it. I will also throw Weakest Link: Asia into the mix, because I love the format and the premise. And of course, obligatory Kyrgyzstan quiz is obligatory (and I love the series!), The Kyrgyzstan Quiz.

What are some of your favourite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
North Korean-ified Flags is a hoot and I remember really enjoying  Vowely Geography – Chinese Metros.

What are your favourite quizzes from an entirely different category?
I have played Find the US States – No Outlines Minefield an unhealthy amount of times in an almost fanatic fashion (I have beat El_Dandy’s score, but I’m not at the top of my friends’ list, but I will return someday). I also like kfastic’s  Periodic Table of Science.

Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
I like to check all groups periodically, but I frequent Find The Star, The Game Room and General Discussion most often.

How can Sporclers in your subcategory best contact you?
You can message me or become friends with me and chat with me! I always like to talk with fellow Sporclers and get to know the community.

Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
First off, there’s this little thing called ‘Art of Curating’ by JeluPotter25 which is pretty neat on Sporcleverse (I may be biased, though).

But on a slightly more serious note, joeydeka, anonymous987, themightymoosh and matthijsbp all have multiple series that are definitely worth checking out. I would also like to shout out some of my more established pals; HappyWife, bhenderson79, needapausebutton, El_Dandy and senordingdong (as well as countless others) who not only are great quizmakers, but also great helpers in regards to my own quizzes.

Haiku or favourite Dad Joke (or both):
My fridge is running
I don’t think I’ll catch it though
It’s a piece of trash

Thanks for the interview caseyw690!
